Mumbai Village

One of the better Indian restaurants

Growing up surrounded by Indian restaurants, you become a sort of connoisseur with a craving for Indian food, and with living relatively local to Guiseley, Mumbai Village had been on my list of Indian restaurants to try for some time.

Walking past their big bay windows, we peered inside to see a packed restaurant, which is always a great sign. Entering the restaurant, you are greeted with the newly refurbished bar area where my partner and I enjoyed a beer and a cocktail, while having a little look at the menu. After a surprisingly short wait, we were shown to our table.

The menu offers a wide variety of both traditional and modern dishes. My partner has a very weak tolerance to spicy food and so she opted to start with a mild Chicken Tikka Kabli (Chicken Tikka pieces with a sprinkling of cheese) (£4.45) and for her main; an extra mild, extra creamy, Chicken Tikka Masala (£8.95). My partner really appreciated the chef doing this. It’s clear evidence of individual cooking, which shows they do cook their food from fresh.

On the other hand, it’s never a difficult choice for me when it comes to Indian food. Lamb chops (£3.95) to start and a Lamb Handi (£9.95) for main.

At first glance, my partner’s starter didn’t look amazing. The sprinkling of cheese they had mentioned on the menu was more of downpour with the oils from the fat pooling on top. This was a shame as the Chicken Tikka hiding underneath was astounding. Big, succulent pieces cooked to perfection. My Lamb chops looked amazing and tasted even better. The chargrilled chops gave a wonderful smoky flavour that didn’t overpower the taste of their marinade. Sublime.

My partner’s visually disappointing starter left her not-so-hopeful of her curry. A short while after our starters, the chef brought over our mains. My partner’s curry tasted just how she likes it- sweet and creamy; almost like a dessert. Not my cup of tea, but if that’s what you enjoy then so be it. She was very happy with the the portion and relished every mouthful.

Hoping for my main to be as good as my starter, I tucked in with sheer delight.

The lamb melted in my mouth with a perfect combination of both spice and sweetness. I much enjoyed mopping up the remaining sauce with my garlic naan.

For both myself and my partner, the overall experience was astounding with the only issue being, a starter was slightly oily to look at, but tasted fantastic. I would highly recommend Mumbai Village. This restaurant is a wonderful setting with friendly staff and exquisite food.
